Hi students

Hello everybody, my name is sade diriye and I am from Somalia. I am at the age of 20 years old. I graduate from Westerville Norht High school in may 28th 2011. This my first quarter in OSU. My firs day of this school was kind confusing and little bit hard for me to find my classes because the school was new for me.

" how many white kids have you taught over the years?"I like this quote because the way it sounds, it seems there have been a big discrimination at that time.

My Name is Taylor Farneman

Hello! My name is Taylor Farneman and I just started at the Ohio State University. I graduated from Dublin Jerome High School this past summer. My favorite activities to do during the day is biking, swimming, exercising, and reading. I currently work at Kroger in Sawmill as a Curtousy Clerk. It is really something that I do because I really like to work.

My favorite quote from the book was from chapter one because it introduces us eilo and give a well description of the boy. "Eilo is seven and a half years old. A picture of him taken near the doorway of the kitchen on the first floor of St. Ann's shows a light-brown child with a head shaped like an olive and a small stuffed rabbit under his right arm."

Myself

Hello class my name is Eric Keplar. Some of the things that you may hav
e learned from me on the first day from the interview. Are that i love being outdoors, during the summer fall and spring i like to go fishing a lot whenever i get the chance. I also like to go hunting when the new seasons come around, which is happening now. Its bow season for white tail deer! Other than fishing and hunting i have recently got a 2000 jeep wrangler so i like to go off roading and go on adventures in it. Whenever I’m not doing one of those things you can most likely find me hanging out with my friends.

My favorite quote from the seconded chapter in Ordinary Resurrections. Not only do I have one but I have two so ill share them both with you. The first one is “you sit her. You can sit over there,” she says, arranging the children at a reading table in one of the study rooms upstairs. the reason why this stuck out to me is because the talk about how pineapple is a little bit bigger for her age but yet she doesn’t let that stand in her way. It’s important because it shows that she’s a leader and doesn’t take orders from others. The other quote that I like is “I’ve been teaching in this school for 18 years,” she said “this is the first white student I have ever taught.” I also picked this one because it’s crazy how this community is like this not one white student in 18 years. I just thought it was inserting to read.

My favorite quote from the book was "There's a great deal of this automatic and insightful kindness in the hearts of many of these children who have been acquainted with unusual degrees of loss and sorrow by the time they're eight or nine years old. They show it with their eyes and with their words, and rapid touches of their hands, and, when it's absolutely needed, with their arms wrapped tight around each other. They're good at being silly, but they're also good at being gentle."

I really liked this passage because it tells a lot about the personalities of the children there. It's inspiring that they have such kindness in their hearts after everything they've gone through. I think if I were in their place I'd be full of nothing but sorrow. It's important because it tells us about how the children interact with one another, with kindness.

Introduction & Favorite Quote

Hey everyone! Well as you already probably know, I'm Chaitanya. I'm an Indian-born American, so i get the best of bost worlds. My hobbies including dancing, and inventing new cuisines. I make amazing guacamole! I also enjoy watching a few sports, such as soccer, cricket and football. I have a very broad range of music that I enjoy. Some of my favorite genres include Hip-Hop, Heavy Metal, Bollywood Indian Music, Bhangra, and Latin Music, such as Reggaeton, Bachata, Cumbias. One thing that's kind of interesting about myself is that I love writing poetry. I have a few poems that I've written, most of them are dedicated to ex-boyfriends. Also, I'm tri-lingual. I know English, Spanish and Tamil, an regional language of southern Indian, fluently.
My favorite quote from Ordinary Resurrections that just hit my heart was where the author, John Kozol admits the awful truth about the state of these children in Mott Haven.
"Most of the children here, no matter how hard they may work and how well they may do in elementary school, will have no chance, or almost none, to win admission to the city's more selective high schools, which prepare their students for good universities and colleges." (John 28). It was heart wrenching to know that there are some of us that take education for granted and other don't stand a chance, no matter their dedication.

Mandy's Introduction

Hello classmates, I'm Mandy something you may not know is a I am an artist. I have been in a couple of shows one of the most prestigious shows I was in was the governors show top 300 and my piece titled red was displayed in Rhodes Tower in Columbus; the show featured the best art work from all over Ohio and out of some 10,000 pieces entered they pick the top 300 to display. My piece that was in the governors show was also bought by the state of Ohio and is now displayed in the governors office. I have been in a few small shows like the Madlab art gallery and in Kitamu coffee shop. Currently I have three pieces of work at the Columbus Museum of Art. At the end of the year I am going to display at least 25 pieces at OSU Newark. Other than art and school which takes up most of my time, I have two cats which I adore named, Bapsy and Reese. I do like to knit on occasion, I mostly make scarfs.
My favorite Quote from Ordinary Resurrections in chapter two "The World According to Pineapple" is "There's a great deal of this automatic and insightful kindness in the hearts of many of these children who have been acquainted with unusual degrees of loss and sorrow by the time they're eight or nine years old" (Kozol 27). This quote speaks to the ability of kids in this neighborhood to be able to comfort each other and since how each other is feeling without words. It also talks about the fact that these kids have experienced more sadness and sorrow in the first few years of life than most people experience in an entire lifetime. This shows the strength and perseverance of these kids at such a young age.

First Blog

Hi everyone! My name is Kelsey. I am undecided about what I want to major in, but I am thinking that I would like to be a pediatric dietician. I love kids and nutrition really intrests me so I think that that would be a good job for me. Some fun facts about me are that my favorite animals are giraffes, my favorite color is purple, I have two nannying jobs, and I love country music. Some of my hobbies include fishing, cooking, and riding ATVs. I like to do any outdoor activities.

My favorite quote from Chapter Two in Ordinary Resurrections is "There's a great deal of this automatic and insightful kindness in the hearts of many of these children who have been acquainted with unusual degrees of loss and sorrow by the time they are eight or nine years old. They show it with their eyes and with their words, and rapid touches of their hands, and, when it's absolutley needed, with their arms wrapped tight around each other. They're good at being silly, but they're also good at being gentle." This was my favorite quote because I think it perfectly describes the innocence of children and it broke my heart because children should not go through hardships like these ones. Also, they can comfort each other more than anyone else can and thats a special bond that children share with each other and I think that's really neat.

Introduction and My favorite Quote

Hi! My name is Abdul Tiba and I graduated from Dublin Coffman High School last summer. I'm 18 years old and I am a huge fan of sports. I mainly watch basketball, hockey and especially football. My favorite teams are the Blue Jackets, Bengals and of course the Buckeyes. I'm a very chill and relaxed guy and I love to hang out with friends all the time. My biggest fear are spiders. I freaking hate spiders. I cannot stand them one bit. Whenever I see one at my house I freak out and I have to kill it. The way it looks just disgusts me. Other then that I'm not really afraid of anything else.

My favorite quote from chapter two of the book Ordinary Resurrections is on page 27 "Gentleness and generosity, however, will not help these children much in overcoming many of the problems they will faces as they grow older" I like it because its saying that even with gentleness and generosity there is more to life. It talks about that there is a lot more to life and you need to be aware of that.

Hellooooo

Hey colleagues, my name is Reggie. I'm a 19 year old freshman here at OSU Marion. My major is Early and Middle Childhood Education and I am taking this class to improve my active reading and writing skills. In my free time I enjoy listening to music, playing basketball , and spending time with my seven younger siblings. Books don't usually hold my attention for very long but this one, Ordinary Resurrections, does. Something I'm very excited about considering it's a required reading. My favorite quote so far has to be the end of Chapter Two. "The children, of course, don't always understand priorities like these. Sometimes grown-ups don't understand them either; but, too often in this neighborhood, there simply isn't any other choice."

Hi.

Hi everyone, my name is Dongren Zhang. I came from China three years ago. My current major is computer science, because I like computer. But i'm not completely sure if that stay my major because I am also interested in engineering, I like looking at all kinds of different buuildngs and houses. During my first year, I am hopefully getting a better idea of what I want to do when I grow up.
My favorite quote from the book was "Most of the children here, no matter how hard they may work and how well they may do in elementary school, will have no chance, or almost none, to win admission to the city's more selective high schools, which prepare their students for good universities and colleges." It difficult to accept, because we both granted the education, but lots of them has no chance to finish their studies, no matter how hard they may work.

Corey Carson

Okay so, my name is Corey and I'm 18 years old. I graduated from Olentangy Liberty High school last year and now I'm ready to learn something. Ive lived in Columbus since i was born so im ready to get out. I plan to major in the area of computers, either computer animation or computer graphics since my life basically revolves around technology. As for hobbies i like to skateboard, play video games, and chill with my buddies. I'm generally fun to hang out with because i don't take much seriously and i like to joke around. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

My favorite quote from chapter two is on page 32, it says "I've been in this school for 18 years and this the first white student i have ever taught." I thought this was interesting because going to school in Powell my whole life, its was crazy that she has never taught a white student.
